Wheels, Walks and Wildlife from our peaceful Bunk House

You’ll find us in the quiet southern end of the Lake District National Park where the mountains meet the sea.

Surrounded by mixed ancient woodland and beautiful fells in particular, Whitbarrow Scar, a limestone escarpment which dominates the landscape. This impressive feature is famed for its rare butterflies and abundant wildlife and birds.

It also boasts rock climbing at White Scar and Space Buttress – although there is a seasonal restriction being a Peregrine nesting site. It is worth checking the BMC British Mountaineering Club for the rules.

Ospreys also breed a mile away at Foulshaw Moss, part of the Witherslack Mosses trio, which are owned and managed by Cumbria Wildlife Trust and Natural England. Very popular with bird watchers and ornithologists and you may be lucky enough to see them circling high above Whitbarrow Scar.

We have heritage houses and gardens on our doorstep too, if that’s your thing:   Holker Hall, Sizergh Castle, Levens Hall and further afield Muncaster Castle.   Check out our blog about local pubs and cafes too.

There are many footpaths and bridleways to explore and we’re lucky to have quiet country lanes. Perfect for walking, running, cycling and mountain biking.   The quiet village of Grange-over-sands is down the road, with the quirky market town of Ulverston not far away, and further round the coast toward Lancaster, you’ll find Arnside & Silverdale.

We’ve lots of great pubs and cafes nearby, so there’s always a view, a loo and a brew along the way.

Please call or email to book your stay with us today as things are a little bit different at the moment as we work with the Covid-19 guidelines to keep you safe.
